Controversial?? Nope, not this time!

I am pretty sure that after reading this note, some people will be mad at me. But, I am also sure that majority of the readers will support and agree with me. This is against some views brought up during a discussion in "The Colloquium" group of IIT Madras and by Nandan Nilekani, Sarthak Pathak, Varun Krishnan and Nishant Sah.
The subject of the note would be very obvious, as everyone is talking/putting up status messages/writing notes about the most pressing issue of the moment - Anna Hazare's Anti Corruption Movement.

I appreciate the fact that, you guys, instead of blindly supporting the movement and raising slogans(Like most of us are doing right now), have actually given a thought to it. You have realised that just one more organisation wouldnt make much of a difference to the corruption problem. Just making another committee is not sufficient to eradicate corruption. The LokPal itself might get corrupted as there is no one else to check it. And two years is too little a time to discuss such a huge magnitude of issues in court. Also Nandan Nilekani has rightly pointed out that it is a "naive" way to attack such a major issue.

Hmmm, true. Whatever you have said and argued is true. I totally support and respect your thoughts. But you need to realise the impact this movement has. For the past 60 years, have you ever seen the whole of India uniting together and joining hands for one cause? Have you ever seen the youth of the nation work so hard for a common issue? Swami Vivekananda had said that youth are the wheels of the nation. But frankly, I had never seen that happen. I never saw the young generation thinking about government related issues, up untill now. I seriously never believed that the youth would care about protesting for the development of India. But they did... They are doing it right now...

Now that is a change. Even if the results might not be that satisfactory for you people. Even if you call the whole Anna movement a farce. It still is a change. A change that brought the whole country together and gave a huge jerk to the government. A change where everyone is aware about the various issues and people are ACTUALLY doing something about it. A change where one old man is going on a fast for the benefit of the nation and the country is moved by it. A change where people are fighting for its rights by physically hurting themselves.
We might get what we demand or not, that is a different issue. Here, we need to concentrate on the psychology of the people. This CHANGE is a must as we need the country to wake up,atleast now. Even though Anna hazare's ideals may not be entirely correct, it still has brought the whole nation under one umbrella. We need to recognise this behaviour that has crept into people's minds. We need to be happy that we are doing something atlast.

So stop thinking whether an organisation like LokPal is needed or not. Instead of doing nothing about the corruption issue. Instead of just saying "This wont be of any use". Instead of sitting quietly, like we all did for the past 60 years. Join the movement. Lets show that India can be united and we will not be played with anymore. The government should realise that India is still a democracy and people are not dumbfucks.

And the good thing about such a movement is, government officials will now be scared to ask for bribes. They will be beaten up to death because of the mob scenario. Everyone in the country would have grown bolder and would have stopped giving bribes, as they have support right now. So please dont criticise mass hysteria and please dont criticise the movement just because you think the final result is not worthy enough. The whole idea of a revolution is sufficient to bring changes.
Anyways I still do respect your thoughts. But please think in all angles too. Any Change is good Change. Be a part of it.

Jai Hind.
Akand Sitra.

PS - Ooohh forgot, During the IITm students' march supporting the lokpal bill, I heard some people shouting slogans against Congress. WTF?? Do these people think the whole corruption issue is only due to Congress?? Im not a fan of congress but come on guys, corruption is a global phenomenon! We are not against any particular party. We are against corruption!! We are marching to get a bill passed!! Not to remove the government!! Just because some assholes were caught in a controversy doesnt mean that all politicians are bad. We need to respect them, as most of them are hard working and good at heart.(I think so) :P

Did India just have the worst two years of its history??

I have been silently observing, even though I never talk about it. I have been reading newspapers everyday.. But never raised my opinion about it... But, I think its high time we need to think and start discussing the issues going on in the country which in every way has affected all of us and also the reputation of this country....

Well, the last few years can be called as the "Age of Scams", seriously man.. WTF?? Even though I dont pay any tax, I have seen my parents paying taxes.. I have seen people who work their asses off, get monthly income, pay a "significant" amount of it to the govt. And these bloody bastards just eat away all the hard work which we do?

Most notably, the pioneer of huge recent scams - The great "2G Scam".. Initially, I dint care about it. It was too technical for me to understand.. Then I have started realising..man, WTF? Who the hell is A Raja and this bitch Kanimozhi?and how dare he would do such a fraud?? I once sat, and counted the number of zeroes in 176000 crores!!

Then, came the CWG scam... This hurt me the most, as soon as I read in the newspaper and in some blogs.. The most important thing which India had! "Its reputation" and "respect" was thrown into the gutter.. Even though India was a poor country, it atleast had some respect with other countries as a culturally enhanced nation.. But everything was washed away because of this bastard called Kalmadi.

Then, a more painful scam happened which dint even show mercy to dead war people.. Yaa, Im talking about the Adarsh Housing Society scam. Its just inhuman, these widows whose husbands have fought so bravely in the Kargil War and who have lost everything were also slaughtered under the axe of corruption... I dont get it.. How much money do these big junta want in a life time???

Also, there are many many other scams like Satyam, Bofors, Telgi to name a few.. I got an awesome pic on the net, which summarised everything
I am seriously impressed by seeing my mallu friends cope up with the Indosulfan issue and the way they raised their concern was truly amazing.. :)

Then, biggest shocker(for me) atleast, the illegal mining going on in Karnataka. I personally liked Yeddy because, before him, Kumaraswamy HD had been a big ass chooth by refusing to resign his CM post. So I had supported Yeddy back then, impressed by his clean record.. And WTF do I find just after 2 yrs?? Oh god, I dont even wanna talk about it coz I personally feel that this is back stabbing.. Yes, Yeddy backstabbed me. I trusted him, I had faith in him(Mainly coz I hated HDK) and he does this.. And the latest news I hear is HE DOESNT NOT WANT TO RESIGN!! I mean, seriously WTF is he upto?

Anyways, amidst all this nonsense I thought we would have no hope.. Then, Anna Hazare had come. And since, we the youth of the nation were sitting joblessly gave him super natural support and the fucking govt still doesnt pass the goddamn Lokpal bill!! I know that If they pass the bill, most of their asses will be on fire and they will be locked up till death.. but come on guys, havent you eaten enough of our money? How much more do you want? Just pass the bill..

I also personally feel that it is OK to let the PM be out of the bill.. Come on, when all the people under him are scared of corruption, how far will he alone go?? Anna and Ramu should think upon this point.

Yet, Ill stop this article by giving my appreciation to the LokAyukta and Santosh Hegde, who are truly devoted to eradicate corruption.. Come on, he single handedy kicked out a CM of a state!! You can imagine how stud he really is!!

A Very Sensitive Issue Indeed

Not so very long ago, there was a joke circulating on facebook which was somewhat like this - " PM - We are sending Indians to moon next year.
Obama- OH! how many ???
PM- 100 .........35 OBC , 25 SC , 20 ST, 10 handicapped , 5 Sports quota , 4 minority &
if possible 1 Astronaut......."

Hmmm It was funny to some extent, it became very popular because the joke was related to all of us. It did show the injustice done to the unreserved class(Im not taking sides, atleast not yet). It is a mockery on one of the most controversial bills ever to be passed in this country.

Incidentally, a movie by Prakash Jha (Aarakshan) is also about to be released based on the same topic. It has already created a huge hype because it tackles very serious political and social affairs.

Anyways, coming back to the joke. It is brilliantly written, the mixture of reservation, space technology and the PM turn out to give nice laughs to the Unreserved class. But I think its plain fart, as it shows only one side of the reservation coin and conveniently leaves the other.

Now lets unravel the truth. The truth may be bitter to most of us, but the absence of the truth is creating unnecessary havoc and unwanted hatred towards the reserved community. Lets analyse the scenario when this law had come into existence(About 5 decades ago?) India was divided into two major parts - The upper caste people and the lower caste people.

The upper caste people(Read as unreserved) had all in thier hands - political power, financial stability and education. They also had mastery over lower caste people. On the other hand, most of the backward communities were illiterate, downtrodden and filthily poor. Most of them worked for the unreserved guys and were humiliated sometimes too.(I dont want to go into the 'brahmin-untouchability' issue right now) So at that time the govt had come up with the idea of the "quota system".

In order to mitigate and to remove the cultural disintegrity, this law was made. This was a fabulous achievement to India. At a point of time, when education was the property of only "upper class" people and the downtrodden had NO right/NO money to educate and improve themselves, this had come as a boon. The unreserved poeple always had an upper hand. They were rich to afford quality education and culturally on the better side for acceptance by the society. After centuries of historic oppression, respect being denied and under-represented in all walks of life, the time of 'reserved class people' had come to shine.

The scenario had changed.

Children who saw their parents being thrown out of temples, who werent supposed to drink water from "some peoples'" houses and who were considered to be "impure", atlast had a chance to stand at par with them. The mistreatment for the past few centuries ceased to exist and a ray of hope and respect was shone onto them.

Now after half a century, when the quota was increased, the unreserved felt the cringe, but, that is what the resolution aimed at, because to empower the weak we need to disarm the strong or else whats the point ?? But any way they started revolting and started creating a mess, but unfortunately for them their long established political influence could not help them this time and they were soon lulled into silence.

When this joke came up(and many such jokes), the young unreserved junta gleefully shared it, each with a snug sarcastically outraged comment, which im sure they don't mean to intend. The very fact that these guys are able to share the post makes them a minority in the country and it reflects upon the opportunities and advantages they possess, so i ask them to stop crying and buckle up to face the truth. Reservation is a fact and you have to face it !! I remind each one of the ill informed fools out there that a reservation candidate does NOT mean in any way under trained or brain dead candidate, which is a wrong perception unfortunately that even the most educated people have. One more myth is that reservation candidates are stealing the jobs and seats of unreserved classes, it not true they are just being protected so that their jobs and seats aren't stolen.

I tell you all unreserved cry babies out there, your fore fathers got away with all theirs deeds and injustices, you should bear their burden now and suffer after all you did inherit their wealth and prestige without complaint. I feel that that reservation for the backward classes should and am sure will be continued in the future.

And now lets analyse the other side of the coin. I have seen many many people who misuse this golden opportunity given to the backwards. Even though they are financially stable,in fact richer than many of thier unreserved counterparts, even though their parents are educationally qualified they still use the category to get thier seats in educational institutions and also in jobs.

Personally, I think the govt should remove the reservation law after a few years and make a new law which gives quota/reserve seats to under privileged and 'poor' people, whose family income can be made the basis of reservation rather than the caste itself. This is almost being done as its already implemented in OBC candidates.(Yes im talking about the usage of creamy layer)

I hope to see a better India where its own people do not fight on illogical issues like caste. I want to see a country where every law is fair to every citizen. A law which helps the deserved to shine. A law which unites people and also improve standards of everyone.
Jai Hind.

PS - Eagerly waiting for Aarakshan :P :P
PPS - I am an OBC candidate and I swear I will never use the category again for anything in the future. I will use my own merit and hardwork.

My interview

Engineers are the designers of the World. From the simplest of things like a pen to the most complex machines like rockets, all are engineered. All the luxuries and comforts that we enjoy today, are made possible only because of the rapid development in technology.

Each year India on an average produces about 12-15 lakh skilled and trained engineers. In every nook and corner of the country we can find an engineering college. Then why is it that India has still remained a developing country? It’s quite obvious that the reason is ‘Brain-Drain’. Yeah..You heard it right its ‘Brain-Drain’ and not corruption or politicians. If human resource is retained everything else will come on track automatically. Even if 3/4th of Indian Einsteins are retained, we would have witnessed a India which would outweigh USA too.

Who other than an engineering student can help us understand more about this disaster.

Akand Sitra a Biotech student from IIT Madras would throw some light about the same.

Arshitha: Basically, I'm dealing with a project which is mostly concerned about the professional ethics and things like that. Before, I bother you with that question; I would want you to share your opinion about 'BRAIN_DRAIN' especially in engineering sector.

Akand: The whole education system in India has been of no use, as most of the students who get higher education from India's government tend to go abroad and work for "foreign" companies and leave India behind.

I am strongly against this because India is paying so much to develop us and our skills, but we are utilizing them for the welfare of other countries. It’s a waste of India's resources. Indirectly, we are just giving away our potential and our success to others. Being such a large country and with a population of over 1.2 billion, we could have become a developed nation/a superpower long back. But, we are not utilizing our sources for ourselves, but for others. The main problem of this is, the "selfishness" of the people, the foreign countries pay better so they flock and work for them making India more downtrodden. The only way to prevent this is, the entrepreneurs should make more Indian based companies, offer higher salaries and a better standard of living. And make our Indian people aware of the harm they are causing to their own motherland. They need to be a little less selfish and think of repaying the govt for all its services by becoming their own human resource..

Arshitha: Okay. I completely agree with you on this. But what do you think is the best solution to this problem?

Akand: As I said, more Indian based companies should be made. They need to offer higher salaries (as people only think about money) and they have to increase the perks...And personally I think, this is already being done right now.... at least the IT sector and the consulting firms are...

Arshitha: Now coming to the next question, Indian Institute of Technology is one of the premier institutes in India. Only the brightest minds get to graduate from there. You being a student of one such Institute, tell us the education system there. In the sense, that is it more about rote learning or are innovations encouraged?

Akand: This is one of my favorite questions. After learning, byhearting, mugging continuously for 2 years, i was shocked at the sudden change in the learning system here. The IIT system is way different from the usual education system in India. It’s a relative grade based system, a CGPA based system. The main idea behind this kind is not to grade students absolutely. If some one gets 30 on 100 and no one else can cross him. In school, it is considered as fail, but in here, that student will be the topper as the marks are all relative. Recently, even CBSE has been changed to this format.the other thing about IIT is, Academics is not everything, there will be some activity every week or the other. Like we have inter-hostel technical, literary and sports competitions which will go through out the year.
There will be some 10 competitions in each category, so that will be around 30 competitions in a period of 8 months. on top of this, there are many clubs like music club, nss, ncc, swimming, gym, quiz club, CFI(centre for innovation) etc. The best among the lot is the two college festivals - Shaastra and Saarang. shaastra is an ISO certified student organized technical festival. Saarang is a cultural festival... The main reason why these festivals are so different is, they are fully organized by the students.

Preparation for 3 months, coordination among 1000 people, brings out the managerial skills and team work skills. So on top of academics, there is a lot more going on everyday in the campus of which one can be a part of which helps in gaining a lot of skills and values. On a whole, the true meaning of education is achieved.

Arshitha: Why do u think not many Engineers prefer Government services?

Akand: Well I’m not sure about other colleges, in case of an IIT u r wrong.According to the placement list; many IITians get placed in govt jobs like shipping yards, ntpc etc. on one condition, the package of the job. They do prefer a high paying job to a mediocre govt job, but if the govt job is powerful and high enough, most of them tend to take up these jobs. But when you see the percentage, not many govt companies come for placements whereas a lot of private companies come and ask the colleges itself for placement, so any student would like to grab the opportunity which is offered to him rather than go look up for other jobs.A job package is the total salary a particular job pays, the extra perks involved and the amount of work to be done. Most of the people try to optimize the amount of work tension and the pay they get and take up jobs. This is from an IIT perspective.

Other colleges, students usually work hard and don’t care about the work tension; they usually go for the highest paying jobs. Some other local colleges don’t get companies for placement. So the students over there need to apply to companies on their own and get jobs...

And engineers usually prefer a high paying private job as there is a scope for development and go to higher positions, which lacks in a govt job, where they are stuck in the same position for years.

Arshitha: Please tell us something about your project ‘Travel LIVE!’

Akand:

First of all I would like to tell about Cfi (centre for innovation) here in IIT madras. It’s a thinking cell where if you come up with some idea and it’s feasible and important, you get funds to start that project from the institute. A bunch of us, all first years at that time had got an idea and approached CFI and we got selected for the project to start.

Our idea was simple....our campus is huge, so we have campus buses running around all the day for free.

If you are standing in a bus stop and waiting for the bus, you wouldn’t exactly know how long the bus will take to come and how crowded will it be.

So, we have put a GPS tracker on the buses, where the coordinates of the bus will be sent to a server every 30 seconds or so.And the user standing in a bus stop can SMS our server number to retrieve the GPS coordinates.

So, with one SMS, he will know where the bus is, and according to an algorithm he will also know how long the bus is going to take to come to that bus stop.We also have a mechanism to count the number of people boarding the bus, so we send that also as a part of the SMS.So, the user will get a reply saying that the bus is "here", it will take so much "time" to come to the required bus stop and so "many" people are there in the bus.

We would give the occupancy in percentage rather than in numbers.

I know my blog is lame,
YA,that I did just claim,
Coz, Some ppl said the same,

...See,blogging is not bout fame,
Its portraying ur ideas in a frame,
Also,playing the creativity game,
So, the idea of blogging came.

I know, my articles suck,
But come on, I aint Bruce Buck,
I know I dont have any luck,
For bein demeaned by my gf LAKK.

When I was a kid, I had a blog,
Im sayin this coz now im a dog,
whose ideas have been clogged,
And now I cant even properly slog.

You hate FACEBOOK??????

After being online 24hrs for 6 months continuosly on FB... I gave up last week.. I have banned myself from facebook as IT SUXXXXXX to d core... And here is David Ippolito's song to help me.... I just enjoyed the song... here are the lyrics....

I saw my ex on Facebook…
But I wanted to do what’s best.
Show her there are no hard feelings so
I sent her a “friend request”.
But now her photo pops in that random 6
And I just think it’s mean…
There she is with a new guy makin’ out
on my computer screen!

Facebook is a stupid idiot! (x3)

Jane said you gotta be on Facebook
to connect in the digital age.
So like everyone else… and their pets
I got my face a Facebook page.
Now the learning curve was a bitch at first.
I didn’t know ’til I got burned
that what I wrote on my wall could be seen by all.
That’s just the first thing that I learned.

Facebook is a stupid idiot! (x2)

It’s the place for worthless information
like an insane almanac.
Where women post minutiae
and men write stupid comments back.
Where women can vent about mundane events
and inundate the Internet.
And where clueless men “friend” women
who they’ve never even met.

Facebook is a stupid idiot
’cause I could stand to miss
the fact that Tanya thinks all her friends are “AWESOME”
and for some reason Pete “likes this”.
And Rita reports that the trucks are loud
but she still loves this city. It proves that…

Facebook is a stupid idiot.

Now some woman sent me flowers…
‘though I don’t even know her name.
I stayed home that day for hours
but no flowers ever came.
Then she started sending hugs and drinks. Of course…
all of it completely fake.
Then she hit me with a “virtual pillow”
How much shit can one man take?

Facebook is a stupid idiot
’cause I don’t need to read
all the everyday hapless crap out there
then ZAP! It’s a “News Feed”.
Like: Jenny just made Ben’s favorite stew
and gave some to their kitty. It proves that…
Facebook is a stupid idiot.

Now some guy with a mind for trivia
wants to know how mine compares to his.
But I’m gonna buy a gun if he sends one more
f#%king “movie quiz.”
And Liza says she needs fertilizer
’cause her FarmVille crops are small.
“WHAT THE F#%K IS FARMVILLE?”
And Missy says she’s just so damn busy today…
But had time to write that on my wall!

Facebook is a stupid idiot.
There’s nothing more to say.
How else would I know that Heather
thinks that “flip-flop weather”
is finally here to stay!
And what did we do before we knew
that Sue just took a nap.
Facebook is a stupid idiot.
